Like the Cottongrass synonymous with Manchester’s historical growth as an industrial city and from which our homes take their name, our mission at Cottongrass Homes Limited is to ensure that the children we support are provided with a safe and nurturing environment in which they can grow towards an industrious and independent future.
Founded by a social worker in children’s services, we are a child-focused provider, working with each child to achieve their individual goals and support them as they develop towards adulthood.
We fully embrace the involvement of OFSTED in the supported accommodation sector and are proud to be a member of NASAP.
In her role as a social worker for Greater Manchester, Lindsay, one of our two directors, is acutely aware of the differing levels of support provided to looked after children. Lindsay saw the need for a service which would provide safe and outstanding support to young children and Cottongrass was born.
Lindsay is supported in her vision by Lauren, the second director, whose experience as a safeguarding governor, solicitor and charity volunteer meant that she too wanted to help in the creation of a safe and secure place for children to live and thrive.
Lindsay and Lauren are supported in their provision by Abbie, a teacher for more than 20 years, who is dedicated to improving the lives of and developing children to their fullest. She also has extensive experience and knowledge of OFSTED and it’s requirements and so will be invaluable with the new systems that have recently been put in place for providers of support to 16 – 17 year old children.
Cottongrass Home Limited prides itself on its safe recruitment policy to ensure that the children we care for are supported by staff (other than the directors named above) dedicated to the childrens’ safety and development.
Although Halton have only been working with Cottongrass Homes for a short time, we feel we are building a fantastic working relationship with them. The support the team have provided our young people is having such a positive impact on them, especially with building their confidence in the community. Lauren is super friendly and a great communicator and we look forward to continuing to work with all at Cottongrass Homes in the future.
